My Mac doesn't sleep normally any more

Click the star and turn Lidwork off; the star turns grey and normal sleep is back.

If the menu says something went wrong, choose Let Mac Sleep Again. You can always find it under Help ▸ Let Mac Sleep Again, even if Lidwork can't confirm your purchase. macOS has one lid-sleep switch that all apps share, so if another closed-lid tool is running, turn it off too.

If Lidwork isn't running or won't open, normal sleep comes back by itself: at once after a crash, within about 30 seconds after a hang. Every time Lidwork starts, it first sets sleep back to normal. If your Mac still won't sleep, another tool may have switched sleep off with Terminal (old Lidless did this): open Terminal and run sudo pmset -a disablesleep 0 — Lidwork can't see or change that setting from the App Store sandbox. Then email us if it's still odd.

Buying

  • Lidwork is sold only on the Mac App Store, for $9.99 once. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no licence key.
  • It works on every Mac signed in to your Apple Account. To install it on another Mac, open the App Store there and find Lidwork under your purchases.
  • If Lidwork says it couldn't confirm the copy was bought from the App Store, open the App Store app, sign in, then choose Help ▸ Check Purchase Again. A running session is never cut off by this, and Let Mac Sleep Again always works.

Refunds

The App Store purchase is between you and Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. Before you delete Lidwork, choose Remove Background Access… in its menu so its background part goes away cleanly.

Requirements

macOS 14 Sonoma or later on a Mac with Apple Silicon. The app also installs on Intel Macs, but we haven’t confirmed the lid-closed part there yet — please email us before buying for an Intel Mac. Keeping a closed MacBook awake in a bag makes it warm: Lidwork turns normal sleep back on at your battery limit or when macOS reports the Mac is seriously hot, but it can’t cool a bag — keep it ventilated for long runs.
